Pregnancy Care
Starting Your Motherhood Journey
Pre-pregnancy (Pre-conception) Check
For couples who are intending to get pregnant, especially if it’s your first child, a pre-conception check with a gynaecologist can give you a good start to your pregnancy. If there are any underlying conditions that are unknown to the couple e.g. thalassemia, a pre-conception check can help to identify it early.
How can you prepare for pregnancy?
Antenatal Care
It is important to seek antenatal care early so that your pregnancy can be well cared for and problems in pregnancy can be detected early and managed accordingly. We provide both non-invasive and invasive procedures to assess and manage pregnancies. Our team of dedicated obgyn specialists are experienced in all the procedures and to provide overall care for your pregnancies and related medical issues if any.
Non-invasive Antenatal Tests
First Trimester
- Advice on diet and supplementation
Taking folic acid before and early pregnancy has been shown to reduce neural tube defects. - Ultrasound Scan
Early antenatal ultrasound scans are done to assess the number, site and viability of the foetus. - Nuchal Scan & Maternal Serum Screening
- NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing)
Between 11-14 weeks, first trimester screening for Down syndrome can be done. It screens about 90 % of trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome). A newer test which is non- invasive prenatal, uses cell free fetal DNA to test for chromosomes, and can be done after 10 weeks. The test can be as accurate as 99% for Trisomy 13,18, 21 and sex chromosomes. It is popular as the test requires only blood test from the mother. The results are available with 10-14 days.
Second Trimester
- Detailed Anomaly Scan
A detailed foetal anomaly screening ultrasound scan should be done between 20-22 weeks to ensure that the foetus is developing normally. Serial ultrasound scans are done to monitor fetal growth. - Doppler Studies
Doppler blood flow examination is sometimes necessary especially when the fetal growth is slow or the liquor volume is low.
Third Trimester
- Fetal Growth Assesment
- Doppler Studies
- Amniotic Fluid Volume
Invasive Antenatal Tests
- Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)
- Amniocentesis
- Fetal Blood Sampling
